December 2004 I visited my son in Albuquerque while
he was assigned to the Amtrak Conductors Extra board at that location
and was treated to a tour of these Former AT&SF Shops by a
good friend and former Santa Fe Employee.
Dean Cunningham furnished me
with a lot of valuable information to complete this website. I
had met Dean informally on the Internet a few years before our
visit. He seemed like an honest person with the kind of integrity
that is slowly disappearing from our employment and neighborhoods.
After meeting this man in person I realized I had called the shot
quite correctly. I took pictures while touring the former Shop
Buildings and had promised to create a website about the visit.
I've been very slow getting this started and now have created
a lot of information that you will find quite interesting. Read
Dean's Personal Railroad History.
It is quite interesting. Dean will be sending more information
regarding the time line when this facility was actually in use.
I can tell you however that the Shops became of little or no value
to Santa Fe after they converted totally to Diesel Locomotives.
Maintenance of Way used some of the facilities from around 1968
to around 1990 for rebuilding Track Machines. The facility is
now owned by the City of Albuquerque.
More pages and
updates still to come
